Finding Your Fresh Start
by Journey to Health Program Director, Becky Anderson
Spring is nature’s reminder that renewal is always possible. The warmer air, blooming trees, and longer days make it the perfect time to refresh your fitness routine and reignite those healthy habits that may have slowed during winter. Think of this as your season for movement, growth, and balance.
Step Outside and Move
The simplest way to embrace spring is to get outdoors. Swap the treadmill for a walk through your neighborhood, a trail hike, or a bike ride along the river. Sunlight naturally boosts your mood by increasing vitamin D, and outdoor exercise often feels less like work and more like play. If you’re short on time, even a 20‑minute brisk walk after lunch can clear your mind and energize your afternoon.
Micro Goals for Big Change
Sustainable lifestyle change starts small. Instead of aiming for major transformations, set weekly “micro goals” like:
Add one extra fruit or vegetable to every meal.
Stretch for five minutes before bed.
Walk an extra block each day.
These small, consistent actions compound into long-term wellness success—and they’re easier to stick with as the weather inspires you to stay active.
Refresh Your Routine
Spring is also a great time to try something new. Join a local walking group, explore yoga in the park, or take your strength training outdoors with resistance bands. Changing up your environment can make your workouts feel fresh and exciting again.
Your journey to a healthier lifestyle doesn’t have to start big—it just has to start now.
As always, if you have questions or need help with ANYTHING, never hesitate to reach out.
