November is Diabetes Awareness Month

by Journey to Health Program Director, Becky Anderson

When I was 18 years old, I lost my mom to complications of diabetes. She was a full-blooded Native American and it is a medical condition prevalent in Natives. I decided my life mission was to help people realize that they have control over a disease like diabetes.

Through my college studies and receiving my Masters, I learned how I can help others to learn how to manage medical conditions through lifestyle choices rather than medication.

Be in control of your body (and your health) for as long as possible. I know there will be a time when medical intervention is necessary but stay in the driver’s seat as long as possible.
