Sports and Recreational Activities for Weight Loss

by Journey to Health Nutritionist, Lainie Wolter

Hello JTH fam! We’ve looked at the benefits of cardio and aerobic exercise, and maybe you’re ready to spice things up. You might consider adding a sport or recreational activity to your weekly routine. Let’s take a look at some options that are great for increasing cardio and supporting weight loss.

Swimming

This is a great aerobic exercise when done at a steady and continuous pace. It’s also great for improving flexibility and building strength.

Hiking and Cycling

Get outside and get moving! This is a great option for building your aerobic capacity and getting connected to nature.

Recreational Sports

Recreational sports such as volleyball, softball, basketball, soccer and golf – these are all options to increase movement and cardio. Especially if you have a competitive personality, recreational sports are a great way to get involved and your teammates can help hold you accountable!

Yoga and Tai Chi

These alternatives are a bit less intense and can help to build flexibility, decrease stress, and improve coordination.

Now that you have some options to choose from, narrow them down and try a couple out this week! You never know, it could be just what you need to get motivated on your exercise and health journey.
