The Importance of Sleep
by Journey to Health Program Director, Becky Anderson
A lot of people overlook how important it is to get the appropriate amount of sleep on a regular basis. The way our body handles fat can fluctuate with how much sleep we get.
*Our circadian clock makes sure our liver is prepared to digest fats at the correct times.
*Not getting enough quality sleep can affect how our body makes hunger-controlling hormones.
*Being sleep deprived decreases our body’s ability to respond to insulin.
*When we are tired, we tend to consume a higher amount of unhealthy foods.
*Not being well rested also leads to decreased physical activity.
So, yes, the amount of sleep (and quality of sleep) we get is very important when we are on a journey to a healthier life.
